Silence is golden.
How much silence do you seek in your daily life? Is your transit time enveloped in a podcast, an audiobook or music?
I worry that we diminish our capacity to listen to our inner voice (and the voice of God) on a daily basis, slowly eroding our natural inclination to the divine and that which lies beyond, immersing our minds and hearts in the now, in the noise, and in the drama. It is the non-diegetic sounds that cram our ears with cotton.
Life is full of drama and usually operates at a deafening crescendo. Why, then, do we so often choose to put it in our backpack and take it with us? One of the kindest blessings I have experienced is the resilience to see it, step over it and walk away. Without opening it, touching it, or letting it invade our heart.
Sometimes the greatest gift is to sit with a few words from Scripture or some insightful person and just be. Not to analyse. Not to dissect. Not to try to create. Just sit. Listen. Be. Let that which is beyond you unlock your heart, open your eyes and unclog your ears that the self that lies deep within may flourish and bear fruit.
I am reminded that sometimes God is in the gentle breeze. Allow that beautiful sensation to move across your face and refresh your soul. Be still. Breathe. Be.
